Kitchen Shift, A Group Of Bad Things And The Birthday Cake

My Saturday turned out to be a long working day [which is of course, I very happy to grab] which ended a few minutes before the sun came into sight the following morning.

3PM to 11PM – The Kitchen Shift:

I was at work in time for my first shift of the day.  It was only 3 o’clock in the afternoon but the dishes were flying out the window in a really speedy pace.  Although exhausted and stressed, it had been a great night.

I so love my Herculean job!  I mean, what’s not to love?  Preparing and cooking food thrill me and with happy and very contented guests, the feeling’s simply like that of being on cloud nine.

On the photo: 25 hamburger trays waiting to be filled and served for a company dinner party that night:

11PM to 5AM the next day – A Group Of Bad Things:

Saturdays mean party, party, party!  While the hotel’s bar starts serving drinks as early as 1PM, the dance floor opens kinda late --- at around 10 in the evening.  My job is to cook food for party goers who want to grab something to bite, pick those empty bottles and glasses, help out with the dishes and lastly, be a part of the cleaning crew after the night is over.

During the last Saturday of September, Bad Things pumped up the volume on the dance floor, a group of DJ performers from Stockholm.  Everyone was dancing to the beat and having loads fun.  The group played popular hits.  I wonder if they use some kind of a lighting controller to boost DMX trigging.  I wish I had time to be nosy to know more about them, their music and instruments.  Unfortunately, I didn’t.  But because I was a part of the already awesome hotel crew that night, I got a free t-shirt [not to mention the tips *wink*].

My free shirt!  Not my first and definitely not my last.

And the birthday cake:

A friend called to order a birthday cake for her two kids Friday afternoon.  She needed the cake today, Sunday, at around 4PM.  Although very tired from work, I was still able to pull it off.  I was taking photos after every step.  The funny thing was, when the cake was done and ready to be delivered, I forgot to snap a picture of the finished cake which I only realized when I was already on my way home.  Oh my.

The last photo taken… The cake is made of chocolate sponge cake.  The first layer is filled with strawberry jam, the second with a piece of meringue plus chocolate mousse, topped with a light layer of chocolate mousse then topped with another piece meringue.  The sides are covered with chocolate mousse.

Wish I could show you the finished product.  Sorry about that.

Anyway, have a great week everyone!
