A friend’s boyfriend celebrated his nth birthday [I promised not to reveal his age *wink*] last Monday. A week earlier, my friend messaged me on Facebook asking me to make a cake for the occasion, “Really chocolate-y, please”, she stressed. She has mentioned quite a gazillion times how they both love brownies so I thought that it would be perfect to come up with something crazy:
- bottommost layer: crispy caramel crumble
- filled with first half of the brownie batter
- a layer of vanilla cookie with lingonberry jam
- filled with another layer of brownie batter
- oven baked at 150°C for 30 minutes
- allowed to cool overnight
- covered with homemade mocha buttercream frosting
- decorated with chocolate ganache, almond bits and chocolate cookies
The finished product resting inside the fridge until it’s time for pick up:

The cookies are the celebrant’s favorite brand --- the reason why they’re on the cake. All others were homemade, the bottom layer crumble, the brownie batter, mocha buttercream frosting and chocolate ganache. I have to say that I am so proud of this cake. It is a bit complicated yet it looks simply delish. After showing it to my friend, she was so happy! It was love at first sight, if I may say. We brought the cake together to her boyfriend. He had this huge very thankful smile on his face and even exclaimed, “Oh! Beautiful and my favorite cookies are there!” --- in Swedish, of course.
I decided not to stay much longer. I was kinda exhausted as I did not have enough sleep the night before. Chatted online with the family, it was. Upon returning in our apartment, I hopped in the tub and took a short bath to relax my tired muscles. Slipper tubs are stylish and do make a huge difference after a long stressful day. My boyfriend and I are so glad that we have one. It’s old but it’s still on top of its game.
How about you? Do you love chocolate brownies? Do you bake your own at home or buy from your favorite cake shop? Do you have a bathtub at home? If not, are you planning on getting one?
